Giving to The Last Green Valley

Please join us in celebrating the undeveloped character of this emerald green island of farms, fields and forests, hills and rivers in the midst of the East Coast's urban sprawl. Our organization works hard to preserve the natural and cultural resources of the Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor - popularly known as The Last Green Valley.

The support of those who care for The Last Green Valley provides the leadership and example for others to follow. As you consider your gift to The Last Green Valley, please remember our key areas of focus.

  • The Green Valley Institute is our critical outreach partnership working to improve the knowledge base from which land use and natural resource decisions are made.
  • The Last Green Valley Grant Program has provided nearly $3 million in over 200 grants to corridor non-profits, agencies and municipalities.
  • The 2009 Source to Sea Expedition, an exciting nine-week program celebrating the natural beauty, rich history, and recreational opportunities of our river systems, has raised public awareness and resulted in 3 new water trail segments on the Quinebaug River. A new Water Trails Steering Committee is beginning to meet regularly.
  • Notable and Notorious, A Selection of Historical Characters, was published to highlight more of the region's history and received great acclaim.
  • Tastes of the Valley and other agricultural programs supported sustainable food systems and other "green" businesses that are historically, aesthetically and economically important to our communities.
  • This year our annual Walktober program was enjoyed by more than 25,000 walkers, paddlers, and event attendees who participated in more than 100 different opportunities to enjoy The Last Green Valley.
  • TLGV Membership program expanded to include benefits of monthly member-only programs and other opportunities.
  • Our Water Quality Monitoring Program partnership provides training and monitoring in the Corridor's waterways.

Of almost 50 National Heritage Corridors throughout the county, TLGV is the only one to adopt a comprehensive Sustainability Plan to ensure this organization's work into the next generation without federal funding. This goal, however, is dependent upon adequate short-term support from the federal government to maintain the credibility of our programs. But because of federal budget cuts, our sustainability plans must be accelerated if we are to continue to provide the exceptional service to the residents and 35 communities that comprise the Heritage Corridor.

Your contribution this year is more important than ever. Our goal to be self-sufficient by the year 2015 will not be possible without your active involvement and participation. Your on-going support helps to keep the organization strong as we work to preserve, celebrate, and enhance The Last Green Valley for future generations.

Please consider making a gift. We are thankful for the generosity of friends and neighbors like you. Together we will conserve the beauty and authenticity of The Last Green Valley for our children and grandchildren.

Please call the office toll free at 866-363-7226 if you wish to make a donation to The Last Green Valley.  Our online system is under construction.
